But the last day of school has officially come and gone. I turned in the last of everything that was due to the school today (minus keys...). The last day of school (yesterday) was crazy. Two hours flies. I got my crying out in the morning. And then the rest of the day was a chaotic sprint to turn in text books, clean out desks, pass back papers etc. And finish the last chapter of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe which we have been reading aloud. Apologies to C.S. Lewis-- I had to do extreme summarizing and made up a super abridged version in order to get through it in time. Oops. But because the end of the day was so hectic, I didn't really have time to think about what was happening when I said goodbye to the kids. So I just got to give each of them a happy hug. Its much easier knowing that I will still see them next year.
Then it was yearbook signing time. The entire school was released to sign yearbooks. There was cake and even a mariachi band playing. Yup. This is Guatemala. And then, they set off 2011 fireworks (as in the quantity. Fireworks were going off for like 5 minutes straight). And they had a trolley come to school for their grand exit. It was the most elaborate yearbook signing event I have ever seen. But it was fun and a good way to end the year.
Here are some pics of my class...
They have grown so much!! |
And this is more like normal.... |
Now it is on to more goodbyes and more celebrations. I was invited to lunch at one of my students homes. After that it is gearing up for graduation and then a last few days to squeeze everything in before heading home. Really looking foward to this summer, but I have to get through a few more difficult goodbyes before that.
