Everything tastes better with lime.

The title: Reason #72 why I like living in Guatemala.  Okay, so I haven't really made an actual list of things I like about Guatemala.  But if I did, the fact that they put lime on almost everything would certainly be on that list.   Random thought, I know, but I'm currently enjoying some Lime Tortrix, quite possibly my favorite Guatemalan snack.

Moving on.  I survived Parent Teacher Conferences.   Thinking about it was terrifying.  I was so nervous.  It just forced me to process that this whole thing is real.  I'm really responsible for people's children.  I'm not just playing teacher.  I am their real teacher and it is my job to make sure they learn what they need to.   I don't know how to explain it... it was just intimidating, especially having to explain to each parent how their child is doing.  When it comes down to it, I spend just about as much time with these kids as their parents do.  Crazy to think about.

Anyway, the first several conferences I was sweating.  Literally sweating.  But in all actuality I think they went really well.  I had someone to help me translate, which I was thankful for.  And the parents were great and said nice things.

On the topic of school, since we just finished the first quarter, I thought it would be a good idea to have the students do their own self-assessment so they could think about their progress and make goals for the next quarter.   They wrote about what they think they do well, what they think they could improve on, and then made goals for themselves.  Upon reviewing them, I found it hilarious that several of my students had listed one of their goals as, "taking less time to go to the bathroom."  Didn't see that one coming.

Leaving tomorrow to go out of town for the weekend with most of the teachers!
