I haven't introduced you to my Guatemalan family yet. And today is a good time. Yes, they have been mentioned in previous posts, but I have a picture today! These people have been vital in making my time here so enjoyable. They really have taken me in to their home and their family in so many ways.
This weekend was a lot of family bonding time... I'm so busy during the week with school that I don't get to spend a whole lot of time with my host family. But yesterday, I went with the older sister to take the two dogs for a walk in the park and to let them run around a bit. Today, my host mom, brother, younger sister, and I took the two dogs to go up into the mountains. We drove up most of the mountain...cheating, I know. And came to a beautiful lookout over Xela. The mountains was called El Baul, in case you were curious. Here's the view...
We left the mom to enjoy the view, and the three "kids" and dogs went on a bit further into the open woods to throw around the frisbee and play. Then we all climbed a little higher-- I would classify it as a mini-hike. It felt so good to be outside and doing a little bit of "hiking" again. I hadn't really hiked since LIFT, and had been wanting to try it again since I've been here in Guatemala. Hopefully I can work my way up to Santa Maria.... that's the huge volcano that people climb here. I would probably die if I attempted it now. But I have a goal, right?
Here are some pictures we attempted to take during our hike. Self timer didn't work so well....
Haha! Luna!! She wasn't cooperating for the rest of our pictures, but this one turned out perfect. |
The group, minus Luna. |
It was so fun to be out and doing "family" things. Possibly because its Thanksgiving time. I don't know. But I know I'm enjoying getting to know them more and more. And so thankful that I've been placed with people that includes me in their family.
