The Chicken Bus Experience

So this is my second post for today, only because the power was out until the wee hours of the morning and I couldn't post yesterdays until this morning.
That being said, I spoke too soon about the rainy season "not being that bad". Its still not too terribly bad, but the power was out for a long time last night. And today it poured while we were at school and I had to walk home in it, which is a pretty significant walk. And there really isn't any kind of drainage system here, so when it rains the roads become rivers. Just something to get used to. And the plus side is that while I got soaked, none of the important files and papers in my backpack got messed up, which was what I was most worried about.

And I had a new cultural experience today! As I mentioned in the previous post, several teachers and I stayed after regular school hours to continue working in our rooms. Usually we take the teacher bus, but because we stayed late we had to find our own way home. So we went to the bottom of the hill and waited just a minute before the chicken bus came. I'm not exactly sure why its called a chicken bus, as there were no chickens. But basically it is a regular school bus that has been painted. We all squeezed on, and I was lucky to have a seat. It wasn't too crowded which was nice. And it only cost Q1.25 which is about 15 cents. I was glad to have the other teachers with me though, otherwise I would have had no clue when to get off or how to get home! But I made it, just a little wet.

The microbuses are probably the next step for me, but they are pretty intimidating. Everybody just piles into those. I'm going to have to work my way up to that :)

On another note, I saw a mouse in my classroom today.
