I finally have a few pictures. Sorry there aren't more. I just don't take my camera around with me much and I also have this fear of looking like a total tourist. I stand out enough as it is without whipping out my camera. But I'll try to do better.
The first one is of my new room. Much bigger than before. And it connects to the bathroom, which is nicer than when I had to walk down and outside to get to it. And so long dolphin comforter... :) On the down side, I might now have fleas. But that's a story for another time.
Next we have a picture of Parque Central (Central Park). I catch the bus to school in this park every morning. Its a few blocks away from my house.
And the last one for today is a picture of the street I live on-- Calle 6.
So obviously I survived last week. This weekend has been wonderful! Friday night I went to the French restaurant with a friend and ate amazing food and had some great conversation while listening to live music. A great way to end the week and start a relaxing weekend.
Saturday was the birthday of one of the teachers, so to celebrate we all hopped on a chicken bus and headed to the coast. See last weekends chicken bus story-- this time was pretty much the same. We went to a place called Irtra-- I think that's spelled right. It was absolutely gorgeous. That's apparently where the staff retreat is held later in the year. Sorry, I didn't take any pictures this time. But there were all kinds of peacocks roaming the premises. We had a buffet breakfast with fresh squeezed fruit juices, omelettes, chorizo, beans, fruit, breads, french toast, cheese, etc. So good.
And then after we had gorged ourselves, we proceeded to get into our bathingsuits and hang out in the pool. They had little waterfalls and a slide and all! It was a nice day to just get away and relax. We came home and then had cake and watched a movie.
Today I slept. I needed it. Then it was an errand running kind of day. But it made me feel like I'm really starting to live here. I had gone to the bank. Today I took more laundry to be washed-- and yes, it is still weird to know that a random Guatemalan man is washing and folding my underwear. I went to the grocery store. I bought minutes for my phone. All on my own :)
This month has flown. Back to school in the morning!
