Tropical Depression Eleven-E

So apparently that's what they are calling the crazy storm that we've been having here. I guess we aren't cool enough to get a name like 'Earl'.

It rained ALL day yesterday. Literally. And hard. (Well, minus the 20 minutes we had for afternoon recess, when it miraculously stopped. I truly believe that was a gift from the Lord! It started raining again right as recess was supposed to end.)

Luckily I had my rain boots at school because the streets were rivers. And that was about the only luck I had yesterday. For some reason I decided yesterday of all days was the day to wear a white skirt. Dumb idea. Obviously I didn't realize a tropical storm was headed our way.

Also, I have misplaced my umbrella. My house mom lent me one of their old ones. Bright, large, rainbow colored and...broken. Several of the prongs were broken and kept popping me in the head. Then the actual plastic part came off of two of the prongs, so my full umbrella turned into half an umbrella. Then I accidentally punctured a hole with one of the broken metal prongs. It was an ordeal for sure. Haha. One of the other teachers took a picture because I looked so pitiful. If she posts it, I'll try to put it up here for you.

Needless to say, none of the trips people were planning for this weekend came to fruition. It was decided that the roads were too dangerous (potential mudslides/impassable/backed up) and it wasn't a good idea to leave town. I think its probably for the best that I didn't leave anyway. We have been going non stop since we got here, and as much as I'm looking forward to travelling, I think its nice to have some time to just stay put and enjoy where we are. Plus, I've been doing major catch up on school work.

I ended up staying at school last night until 6:30. On a Friday night-- I know, I'm a loser. And I've been working at home today. Hopefully this will be one of the few weekends that has to happen. And as much as I wish I didn't have to do it, I think its going to pay off. It'll be nice to actually feel ahead or at least on schedule, rather than everyday struggling to keep my head above water.

I did get to have some fun though! After school I went out for pizza with a friend. So now I've officially tried cuisines of Italy, India, China, France and Guatemala since I've been here :) All delicious. The Mediterranean restaurant is next on my radar.

Afterwards a big group of us played Apples to Apples. Not necessarily my favorite game, but the group is so funny that I ended up crying from laughing so hard! Great night, for sure, despite the rain.

  1. I had the best mental picture of you walking around in rain boots, a white skirt, and a broken multi-colored umbrella. Preparing for weather has never really been your thing, haha.

I'm glad that you enjoyed Apples to Apples because I feel like it is a dying game post-college!

    I miss you!
